In short

The Storm Boelo yellow wind warning covers North Lincolnshire and North East Lincolnshire until 9pm on Sunday 25 October. In Grimsby and Cleethorpes, report a dangerous structure to North East Lincolnshire Council building control on 01472 325959 in office hours, or on 01472 313131 at other times. Call 999 if anyone is in danger.

The warning south of the Humber

The Met Office yellow wind warning for Storm Boelo covers North Lincolnshire and North East Lincolnshire until 9pm on Sunday 25 October. It expects gusts of 55 to 65mph widely, with 70 to 80mph or more possible in some coastal and exposed places, and spells of heavy rain.

On the Cleethorpes and Humberston seafront the Met Office also warns of large waves and beach material thrown onto sea fronts, coastal roads and properties. Inland, the listed impacts include tiles blown from roofs, trees blown over and power cuts.

If part of a building looks ready to fall

Keep people away from below it, and call 999 if anyone is at risk.

  • North East Lincolnshire (Grimsby, Cleethorpes, Immingham): report it directly to building control on 01472 325959, 8am to 5pm on weekdays. Outside office hours the council gives 01472 313131.
  • North Lincolnshire (Scunthorpe, Brigg, Barton-upon-Humber): use the dangerous buildings page on the North Lincolnshire Council website.

The council deals with the danger to the public. Repairing your own roof is still for you to arrange. If wind has got under the ridge, our answer on rebedding ridge tiles or fitting dry ridge explains the options.

Trees and debris on the road

North East Lincolnshire Council handles branches and debris on the highway through its online Highway obstructions form or on 01472 326289. Out of hours, call 01472 313131, choose option 1 for emergencies and then option 3 for highways.

If a tree or branch has landed on your roof, stay out of the rooms below the damage until someone has looked at it.

Checking your roof on Monday

Wait for daylight and calmer weather. From the ground, look for broken tiles, cracked ridge mortar and lifted flashing. In the loft, look for daylight, wet felt or damp timber, and if a stain appears on a ceiling, our guide to damp patches on ceilings will help you read it. Stay off ladders and the roof.

Take dated photos before anything is cleared and read our guide to storm damage insurance claims before you call your insurer.
